The Emphatec InstaLink-CLM serves a number of functions - it is the equivalent of a fuse terminal, a feedthrough terminal and a ground terminal. But unlike a fuse it automatically resets after a fault. It also includes a make-before-break function for easy insertion of a current meter into the loop.

The module's current limiting circuit prevents a short circuit in one current loop from causing a power supply from shutting down. Only the short circuited loop is affected - the rest of the system continues to operate.

The module provides a digital output signal that can be monitored by a PLC or DCS and used to indicate exactly which loop is shorted.
